This is written to state my strong opposition to the National Animal Identification Plan.
Some particularly noteworthy points of this plan are:
1. Upon obtaining a site id, you have forfeited your Constitutional right to demand a warrant before search and seizure.
2. Your animals become part of some "national herd" while you, as owner, are reduced to an as yet undefined role of "stakeholder".
3. Current USDA (via Homeland Security) plans include a scorched earth policy. If a diseased animal (species and diseases not specified) all healthy animals of a suseptible species within a six mile radius will be "depopulated". That is, in plain English, slaughtered without compensation to their owners and without being tested for disease, vaccinated or treated if possible.
4. The tracking portions of this monstrous plan are enough to destroy horse ownership as any sort of recreational or pleasureable endeavor. Every birth, death, purchase, sale or movement of an animal on or off your premises for any reason whatsover must be reported to the government within 24 hours, no excuses, no exceptions.
5. The USDA keeps changing its story. At first stated as mandatory, this plan is now called voluntary but will only remain voluntary if it obtains 100% compliance. That is not voluntary, it is forced. The written plan has not changed but continues to state mandatory. Do not believe the USDA's propaganda, read the plan for yourself.
Hopefully, by now you want to find out more, to verify that is not the crazy urban legend it sounds like!
Please read the articles linked below, then go to libertyark.net and sign the supporters pledge http://libertyark.net/pledge.dyn . Call, write, FAX and generally harrass your state and federal legislators to let them know that this plan is completely unacceptable. Most of have heard of it, have voted on it but do not have a clear understanding of it.
